GOPALGANJ, Jan 18: Cold weather condition has intensified with icy wind blowing from the north pushing the mercury further down.
Yesterday evening in Gopalganj mercury had dropped down below 18 degree Celsius giving the people a feeling of bone chilling cold.
Sale of winter clothes is gaining momentum in Gopalganj district as winter chill has started blowing in the southern region.
According to a market source, winter clothes including blankets, shawls, woolen sweaters, caps, mufflers, coats and cardigans are being sold hugely at different makeshift shops, roadside shops and stalls as well as in big shopping malls.
Poverty stricken people are burning dry leaves, straws and papers and wrapping their body with jute-sacks to protect themselves from the invasion of cold.
The normal life has halted everywhere and the only task of infants, youths or oldies seems to fight against winter. The rural destitute who have little warm clothing are worst hit by cold.
