Life term for killing wife

A court in Sirajganj has convicted a man and sentenced him to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing his wife in 2008. The convict was identified as Abul Kashem Fakir, 48, son of late Bux Fakir of Solongi village in Chouhali upazila. Abdus Salek, the District and Sessions Judge, Sirajganj, pronounced the verdict on Thursday afternoon. The court also fined the convict Tk 5,000, in default to suffer three months more in jail. According to the prosecution, Rowshan Ara, 28, wife of Abul Kashem Fakir was beaten to death by her husband Kashem Fakir on July 15, 2008. Later Nur Hossain, father of the victim, filed a case in this connection. After examining records and witnesses, Judge Abdus Salek handed down the punishment yesterday, according to UNB.
