Lighterage ship with salt sinks

CHITTAGONG, Nov 14: A lighter vessel with cargo sank in the Karnaphuli estuary's Parki Beach area Friday noon. The vessel was carrying 1,200 tonnes of salt from Chittagong to Dhaka.
Executive director of lighterage controlling agency Water Transport Cell, Mahbub Rashid, said the vessel got cracked in the bottom and water poured in with the high tide.
Master of the vessel named MV Nafiz tried in vain to anchor it towards the shore. All crews of the vessel swam ashore safe. The incident occurred as the vessel was crossing the Karnaphuli estuary.
