Lightning kills 8 in 3 districts

Eight people were killed and 14 others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Lalmonirhat, Sunamganj and Panchagarh districts on Thursday. Among them, four people were killed in Lalmonirhat, three in Sunamganj and one in Panchagarh. In Lalmonirhat, four people were killed when thunderbolt struck them at Hatibandha and Aditmari upazilas in the morning. Police said lightning struck three people – Lutfor Hossain of Dhubni village, Jainul Abedin, of Sadhur Bazar area and Bishnu Bhadra of Hatibandha during rain, leaving them dead on the spot. Besides, Ashini Kumar, of Tiper Bazar area of Aditmari upazila, was killed when lightning hit him in the morning. Meanwhile, 13 people were injured in separate incidents of lightning strike at different villages of different upazilas in the district. In Sunamganj, three farmers were killed by lightning in Dakshin Sunamganj and Dharmasha upazila while working in the field amid rain. The deceased were identified as Tajul Islam, 30, and Ashikur Rahman, 15, of Dakshin Sunamganj and Ajimul Miah, 45, of Dharmapasha. In Panchagarh, a farmer was killed and another injured as a thunderbolt struck them at Marea Colonypara in Boda upazila while working in their cropland. The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar Siddique while the injured as Azhar, according to UNB.
