Lightning kills one in Dinajpur

BMD issues lightning, thundershower alerts for 6 districts

DINAJPUR, June 29 (UNB) : A farmer was killed and two others were injured after a thunderbolt struck them while they were working in a field in Haripur village of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Quamrul, 34, son of Dildar Rahman of Bolgari Chandidaspur village in the upazila.
Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Police Station, said a thunderbolt struck Quamrul and two others while they were working in the field amid rain at noon, leaving Quamrul dead on the spot and injuring the two others.
The injured were given first aid.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a lightning and thundershower alert for six districts, warning of sudden gusty winds and rain on Monday, reports UNB.
According to the bulletin, scattered parts of Bogura, Naogaon, Jamalpur, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Chandpur districts are likely to experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms, or rainfall by 1 pm on Monday.
As part of the hazard safety measures, the Met Office has strongly advised residents in the affected areas to remain indoors and avoid going outside as soon as they hear thunder.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning flashes are likely at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions, with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places across the country.
Day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country.
A mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Rajshahi, Pabna, Chuadanga, and Kushtia, and it may abate in some places.
