Listed criminal killed in ‘gunfight’ in Barisal

A listed criminal was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Chawkbazar area of Barisal city early Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Faruk Hossain alias Panama Faruk (40), a resident of Bazar Road area of the city. Abul Bashar, acting commander of Rab-8, said a patrol team of Rab challenged a gang of criminals suspecting their movement in the area around 6:00am. Finding them to be Rab members, the gang opened fire on the elite force and the law enforcers also fired back triggering a gunfight that lasted for 20 minutes. Rab recovered bullet-hit body of Faruk after the gang members fled the scene. Rab also recovered a pipe gun, two pistols, an LG, several rounds of bullet and some sharp weapons from the spot. The elite force sources said Faruk, also known as a local Jubo League leader, was one of the listed eight top terrors of the city and had several cases, including for murder and extortion, filed against him with different police stations, according to UNB.
