Little rainfall, some relief

The temperature dropped in the city as sporadic rain was reported from some districts Friday afternoon bringing some relief from the scorching heat sweeping the country for over a week, reports bdnews24.com.
The Met Department said the drop in temperature had been caused by rising humidity. It also said there were chances of rain in some parts of the country.
Department's Forecast Officer Abul Kalam Mallik said there were light showers in Comilla, Mymensingh and Sylhet in the afternoon.
"Today, there has been rain in one or two places. The temperature will fall further," he said.
The department predicted moderate showers accompanied by gusty winds in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet.
Mercury was in upward trend during the last several days and it had fallen slightly Friday, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.
But people of the country were not getting full relief from the scorching heat as mercury reached 41.9 degrees Celsius at Chuadanga Friday, he further said.
Met office recorded 42.4 degrees Celsius in Jessore Thursday.
Lack of adequate water supply, frequent power cuts and spreading of diarrhoea further deepened sufferings of the city dwellers. Diarrhoea has been spreading in the capital due to the drinking of unsafe water in the absence of adequate supply of safe water to the city dwellers this summer.
The number of diarrhoea patients has gone up sharply at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B) over the last few days.
About 492 patients were admitted to the ICDDR, B in the capital till 4 pm on Friday while the number was 467 till 4 pm Thursday.
