Litton Das, the stand-in Test captain of Bangladesh, and Afghanistan coach Jonathon Trott applauded the pace-bowling department for their exceptional performance in the recently concluded Test match against Afghanistan, report agencies.
The Bangladeshi pace-bowling lineup claimed 14 wickets in this match, marking the first instance of Bangladeshi pacers taking such a tally in a Test match.
In the first innings, Ebadot Hossain secured four wickets, contributing to Bangladesh's significant lead by dismantling Afghanistan for just 146 runs. Taskin Ahmed also impressed in the second innings, taking four wickets to dismiss Afghanistan for a mere 115 runs.
The pacers' outstanding performance led to a massive 546-run victory for Bangladesh, their largest-ever win by runs in Test cricket. This victory also stands as the largest margin of victory by runs in Tests in the current century.
Acknowledging this historic achievement, Litton described the pacers as the main architects behind Bangladesh's remarkable win.
"As a captain, I'm extremely delighted," Litton expressed during the post-match press conference. "Playing with three pacers in Mirpur is not something we usually do. I believe the spin-friendly nature of the wicket was a contributing factor."
However, this time, the wicket displayed friendliness towards the pacers, offering some assistance. The interim captain of Bangladesh attributed the pacers' success to the wicket conditions.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan coach Jonathon Trott showered Bangladesh pacers with enormous praise, stating that the Tigers now could compete with any team in any condition if the pacers continue to show this kind of performance which they demonstrated in the one-off Test.
Bangladesh's fast bowling unit was instrumental in inflicting a 546-run defeat to Afghanistan, claiming 14 wickets in the match. It's the third largest victory in the world cricket history and the biggest ever in last 89 years.
"I think it's pretty good, you know, good pace. And will be able to compete at home and away with the types of seamers that they've got. Also with the spin, the accurate spin bowlers, they know how to play in their own conditions really well. So, credit to them," Trott said after his side lost the game in four days.
"Obviously very disappointed (to loss the game by such huge margin). And we didn't play well from the word go. So, we haven't played a Test match for 27 months. Players had only been in the country four days. So, obviously, there are things that need to be done better to prepare for a test match and be expecting to compete."
