Litton Das struck an unbeaten half-century to guide North Zone to a six-wicket win over South Zone, while Naim Sheikh and Abu Haider Rony hit contrasting fifties as Central Zone beat East Zone by five wickets in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) one-day matches on Thursday, reports BSS.
Put into bat first, South Zone were bowled out for 144 in 30.5 overs, a total North Zone overhauled in just 25.4 overs, reaching 145-4, thanks to an unbeaten 55 from Litton.
This was North Zone's second straight victory, having earlier thrashed East Zone by 54 runs.
South Zone pacer Mustafizur Rahman, however, jolted North Zone with a brilliant spell with the new ball, giving his side a glimmer of hope despite the paltry total on the board. He claimed three wickets in his first two overs, leaving North Zone in a precarious position at 37-3 in just the fifth over.
Habibur Rahman Sohan and Tanzid Hasan Tamim made a boundary-filled start in pursuit of the target before Mustafizur struck twice in three balls, dismissing Habibur for 14 off 6 balls and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for a two-ball duck.
Meanwhile, asked to bat first, East Zone piled up a challenging 237-9, but Central Zone cruised to 240-5 to seal victory with ease.
Opener Naim Sheikh laid the platform with 83 off 98 balls, a knock studded with five fours and two sixes.
Abu Haider Rony then provided the finishing touch with a whirlwind 66 not out off 42 balls, laced with six fours and four sixes. Together, they added 74 runs for the fifth wicket to steer the side close to victory.
Naim, however, missed out on a century when Nayeem Hasan had him caught by Khaled Ahmed.
Mahfijul Islam Robin was the other notable scorer with 29.
