Livakovic third goalkeeper to save three penalties

In a tight round of 16 contest against Japan in the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Monday, the Croatia emerged victorious in the first penalty shootout of the tournament. And that's when Dominik Livakovic announced himself to the world.
Croatia goalkeeper Livakovic starred in the team's penalty shootout with three saves in the win over Japan at the FIFA World Cup at the Aljanoub Stadium on Monday, report agencies.
Livakovic saved penalties of Kaoru Mitoma, Takumi Minamino and Maya Yoshida in the shootout. In the process, Livakovic became only the third 'keeper to save three penalties in a shootout at the World Cup.
Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo saved three of England's penalties in the 2006 quarterfinals to win the shootout 3-1. Danijel Subašic, also of Croatia, saved three against Denmark in the 2018 round of 16 to win the shootout 3-2 en route to the nation's run to the final.
He was named the player of the match for his efforts.
The 27-year-old was part of the 2018 Croatia World Cup squad which finished as runner-up but didn't play a single minute.
