Liverpool, Chelsea in title vow

Thursday, 5 March 2009

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez and Chelsea counterpart Guus Hiddink have vowed to keep pushing Manchester United for the Premier League title, BBC reports.

Both won Tuesday and are four points behind United, who have two games in hand and face Newcastle Wednesday.

Liverpool visit United on 14 March and Benitez said: "If we win that, things may well be a lot different."

Hiddink said: "It is good for everyone in this championship to keep the pressure on the number one team."

Chelsea won 1-0 at Portsmouth and Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0 to cling on to their title hopes.

"United are in a good position," added Benitez. "United have experience but clearly it's important for us to win.''

"Chelsea won too so United have to win if they want to keep the difference."

Benitez, whose team face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, will take his side to Old Trafford on the back of a confidence-boosting win over Sunderland, which followed Saturday's defeat by Middlesbrough.
