Liverpool unveil new stadium plans

Thursday, 26 July 2007

LIVERPOOL (England), Jul 25 (AFP): Steven Gerrard admitted he can't wait to lead Liverpool out at their new 60,000-seat stadium after the club unveiled the plans for the spectacular Stanley Park arena.
The Reds submitted an official planning application to Liverpool City Council for the new 300 million pounds venue on Wednesday and hope to move in by 2010.
The decision to leave Anfield, Liverpool's home for over 100 years, is seen as essential if the club are to compete financially with Chelsea and Manchester United.
American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks were determined to oversee the development of a new stadium unique in English football and architects HKS have produced plans for Stanley Park that deliver on their vision.
Liverpool captain Gerrard is convinced the new ground, which could eventually expand to a 78,000-capacity that would make it the biggest in Britain, will be a fitting successor to Anfield.
