Loadshedding makes Jhenidah rural life miserable

Our Correspondent | Wednesday, 24 June 2015

JHENIDAH, June 23: Frequent loadshedding, is making lives of 1,60,000 consumers under Jhenidah Palli Biddyut Samity (JPBS) unbearable as they are not getting electricity specially at night, including during Iftari, Tarabi and Sehri.
Md. Ahsan Habib Solok of Bhalki village under Harinakundu upazila of the district said the region has been facing the problem of loadshedding terribly over past few days. This has affected keeping fasts by the Muslims here and even studies of children.
Md. Mohsin Ali Bokul at Panchlia village in Kotchandpur upazila said that people are being tormented by frequent and long spells of loadshedding. Hasan Ali from Haat Fazilpur village of Shailkupa upazila said, "What has been torturing the inhabitants is the electricity crisis. With the passage of time, the problem of loadshedding has been rising leading  to no resolution taking place and negligence of the authority.
Officials of JPBS, while contacted, told The Financial Express that Jhenidah grid was not getting electricity as per the demand in the district. The greed is having only 48-40 Megawatt of electricity in the peak hour against its demand of 70 mw at the time.
Shortage of electricity production due to stoppage of machine or maintenance in the power stations can be attributed to the decrease in supply of power to Jhenidah grid.
Out of the 48-50 mw of power that the grid is receiving, WZPDCL (West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited) is taking nearly 33 mw for its consumers, and the rest of the electricity is being given to JPBS against its demand of 46 mw during pick hour.
If Palli Biddyut and WZPDCL conducted  loadshedding in proportion against their respective demands in the peak hour, extent of loadshedding could be less in the rural areas within the district, sources in the samity said adding that there is a total of 1,60,000 consumers under JPBS.
Moreover, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) operation, in most cases, is operated from NLDC (National Load Dispatch Centre) due to under-frequency (if deficit in supply) in the feeders of Palli Biddyut Samity.
According to JPBS officials, loadshedding schedule cannot be maintained now because of SCADA operation.
