Loans at low interest for milk production

Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday signed a "participation agreement" with different banks and financial institutions (FIs) under its Tk 2.0 billion (200 crore) refinancing scheme to promote milk production and simulated breeding of livestock. The agreement was signed at a function at Bangladesh Bank conference hall with chief executives of some 13 banks and FIs. Central bank governor Dr. Atiur Rahman was present as the chief guest.  Under the scheme, farmers will avail bank loans at a 5 per cent interest rate for milk production and simulated breeding. The banks and FIs include Sonali Bank, Rupali  Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, Basic Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank,  Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Brac Bank, IFIC Bank, Midland Bank, Ansar-VDP Bank, Karmasangsthan Bank and IDLC.    — UNB
