Local brands dominate at DITF

Competitive price and better quality have attracted consumers to buy products of local brands at the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF).
The participating companies at DITF said domestic brands are dominating the 40- day fair as most of the customers are showing their interest in locally manufactured goods.
The FE correspondent found that customers from all sections were thronging the stalls and pavilions of garment, electronics, house appliance, automobile manufacturing companies such as. Asian textile, BLU- Premium Fashion, Walton, Runner, MyOne, Jamuna, RFL, NADIA Furniture Ltd, Navana Furniture Ltd, Golden Harvest, Polar Ice Cream, Nabisco and Prince Food product.
Most local companies have brought new models of their different products to attract the customers. The young visitors have been showing their interests in the local brands.
"The local manufacturers have been producing good products that have impressed me", Sharmin Nahar, a visitor who came from Mirpur, told the FE at DITF.
She said her first choice is local products as the local entrepreneurs are maintaining quality, packaging and even technology.
Nazmul Islam, a private university student who came to buy a motorcycle said he wants to buy a local brand one. He said cheaper price has encouraged him to prefer local.
Hafizur Rahman Khan, Chairman of Runner Group, a leading motor cycle producer said, "We have been experiencing big crowd of visitors everyday at our pavilion as locally made motorcycle has become the prime choice of the youths".
He said they are producing quality products that could compete with any global brand.
Selim H Rahman, managing director of HATIL Complex Ltd, a leading local furniture brand of the country said at present the local entrepreneurs are producing wide range of global standard and quality furniture.
He said at the DITF most of the furniture companies have been displaying their products of varied designs as the occasion is a global event and a large number of local and international visitors come to make choice of their desired ones.
He said people are now turning to locally made furniture.
"A large number of young people are choosing local products", Atiar Rahman Dipu, Managing Director of BLU- Premium Fashion.
He said the company is making products for foreign buyers. But the BLU- Premium Fashion is a new brand that is producing products targeting local customers.
