Local firm bags regional coding championship

Better Stories Limited of Bangladesh became champion while Nepal's Robotic Association was runner-up in a regional coding competition, sponsored by the World Bank and Microsoft.
Grand finale of the competition on 'Coding Your Opportunity' held at a city hotel Wednesday where four finalists -- three from Bangladesh and another one from Nepal -- participated in the contest.
The competition was rolled out in four South Asian countries --Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka -- where over 70 project proposals were submitted from the participating countries.
Addressing the awarding giving ceremony, Acting Country Head of the World Bank, Dhaka Christine Kimes said South Asia is home to the world largest working age youths.
She said the competition will definitely create awareness among the young population regarding coding language, which is very essential job-skills in today's world.
Speaking the event, Clair Deevy, Corporate Social Responsibility Lead for Asia Pacific of Microsoft, said the Microsoft is committed to helping young people across the world, having their employment, education and entrepreneurship.
She hoped that such competition will create a huge opportunities for the community people of the participating countries.
The wining organisations received up to US$15,000 to implement their innovative ideas.
Member of the University Grants Commission Prof Dr Muhibur Rahman, Country Manager, Microsoft Bangladesh Sonia Kabir, and bdjobs.com CEO Fahim Mashroor, among others, also spoke at the function.
