Local jewellers cut gold prices

The country's jewellers reduced Sunday the prices of different types of gold by Tk 1,050-Tk 1,167 a bhori (11.664 gram) in the local market following the price fall in the global market.
"The newly-fixed prices are effective from Sunday," Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BJS) general secretary Dewan Aminul Islam said after the decision taken by the BJS.
The newly-fixed prices of gold are: 22-carat gold Tk 47,239 per bhori, 21-carat gold Tk 45,081, 18-carat gold Tk 38,608 and the traditional gold Tk 26,244, according to the BJS.
Since mid-February the price of 22-carat gold had been at Tk 48,406 per bhori, 21-carat gold Tk 46,248, 18-carat gold Tk 39,658 and the traditional gold Tk 27,410.
The BJS general secretary said the price of gold had declined by around $60 per ounce since the last price readjustment on February 15 last.
The international prices of gold fluctuated from $1,242.30 to $1,266.23 per ounce till Friday. The prices ranged from $1,299.27 to $1,320.43 an ounce till February 15 last.
