Local tour operators and hoteliers made a good business during the Eid-ul-Azha, as a good number of holidaymakers enjoyed vacation in different tourist spots, said industry insiders.
Tour operators said the number of Bangladeshis travelling abroad or visiting domestic tourist spots during the vacations like Eid is increasing gradually.
Almost all hotels, motels and resorts in major tourist destinations like Cox's Bazar, Inani Beach, Rangamati, Bandarban, St Martins and Sundarbans are still occupied even after the festival is over.
"The gathering was huge in Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Sundarbans and St Martins since November 17, which will continue until November 23," said Taufiq Rahman, chief executive of Journey Plus. He said at least 25,000 to 30,000 visitors went to celebrate the Eid festival in Cox's Bazar.
"Hotels, motels and resorts in Cox's Bazar are normally cent per cent occupied during the Eid," said Taufiq, adding that the exact number of visitors was not available to them.
Setu Biswas, sales and reservation manager of Pebble Stone Sea Resort at Inani, said his resort has been fully occupied since 17.
Nazrul Islam, general manager of Padma Resort, said his resort was fully occupied from November 18 to 20, accommodating at least 100 people everyday.
"Normally on Fridays we have full occupancy, that is 100 people, while it becomes 70 on Saturdays and 20 on other weekdays," he added.
However, a section of tour operators and hoteliers claimed that the flow of visitors during the Eid-ul-Azha was lesser than the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Ahsanul Haque, chief executive officer of Safari Plus, said the flow of tourists to Cox's Bazar was less, but his ship in Sundarbans was fully loaded.
"Overall tourist flow is comparatively lesser during this Eid, as people normally want to enjoy the Eid-ul-Azha at home," he added.
