CHITTAGONG, Sept 21: The long awaited Direct Traders Input (DTI) was launched at Chittagong Customs House (CCH) yesterday to enhance the revenue income of the government through intensified taxation process.
At the initial stage, the newly devised system was introduced in a group of the import section of CCH. It would also come into effect in other groups of the import and export section of customs house, CCH sources said.
According to the concerned sources, a reformative programme has been undertaken at CCH recently to bring transparency, accountability and dynamism in the taxation process.
DTI is a first step towards that goal. Importers or their representatives would now be able to note the bill of entry and place it for taxation directly.
CCH sources further said, it was at first decided to introduce DTI system for executing taxation process through automation. Under this system, concerned C&F agent on behalf of the importers, on executing noting work, would submit the concerned department for bill of entry print.
It would require the assistance and approval of the Noting section of the Customs for analysis as to whether the information provided in the data sheet had been properly presented .
It would help remove the possible problems and inconsistencies in the data sheet at CCH, sources added.
