Long queue of vehicles at Mawa, Kewrakandi ghats
Saturday, 4 October 2014
A 5-kilometre long tailback has been created on highways on the both sides of the Mawa-Kewrakandi ferry crossing points of Padma River. The tailback is getting longer as vehicles are increasing in numbers with the clock ticking. Mawa Water Police outpost in-charge Sub Inspector (SI) Khandakar Khalid Hossin said, over 500 vehicles that left Dhaka were awaiting for ferry at Mawa point to cross the Padma River. Several hundred vehicles remained stranded at Kewrakandi point, other side of the river. However, the traffic congestion on both sides of the river became thinner after additional police force arrived and started their work to control the gridlock at about 12 noon on Saturday, according to a private TV channel.
