Losers dominate gainers at DSE

Stock prices remained mixed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Monday while the turnover declined amid a losers' dominance in the day's session.

The DSE General Index or DGEN and All Shares Price Index or DSI gained by 10.393 points and 6.006 points to close at 2017.441 and 1665.803 respectively.

The blue-chip shares or the DSE-20 index, however, fell by 9.792 points to close at 1774.516.

The turnover declined to Tk 1.846 billion Monday from Tk 2.067 billion, the ever highest on the previous day.

The total market capitalisation increased to Tk 448.916 billion from Tk 441.196 billion from the previous day.

Out of 204 traded issues, prices of 72 gained, 111 declined and 21 remained unchanged on the day.

Power Grid was the top turnover leader at Tk 217.062 million followed by BRAC Bank at Tk 153.215 million, Square Pharma at Tk 136.736 million, Prime Bank at Tk 124.391 million, Southeast Bank at Tk 100.070 million, Summit Power at Tk 86.799 million, Desco at Tk 79.883 million, Pubali Bank at Tk 65.404 million, Heidelberg Cement at Tk 63.890 million and National Bank Limited (NBL) at Tk 56.735 million.

Three power sector issues- Summit Power, Power Grid and DESCO- continued their rally on the news of the second highest allocation of the sector in the annual development programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2007-08.

 Prices of Summit Power rose by 6.29 per cent at Tk 932.50 per share, Power Grid  by 2.34 per cent at Tk 633.75, Desco by 3.27 per cent at Tk 859.50, BRAC Bank by 0.98 per cent at Tk 746.00, Southeast Bank by 0.91 per cent at Tk 442.00,  Pubali Bank by 6.45 per cent at Tk 668.25, Heidelberg Cement by 2.92 per cent at Tk 1013.25 and NBL by 5.08 per cent at Tk 723.50.
