Low over Bay intensifies into depression
Sunday, 26 October 2008
The well marked low over the Bay intensified into a depression Saturday, triggering rain and stormy wind in different parts of the country, reports UNB.
A latest Met Office special bulletin said the low, formed over the west-central Bay and adjoining north-west Bay, turned into depression and slightly moved north-westwards.
"Under the influence of the depression, heavy-to-very heavy rainfall may occur at different places over Chittagong, Barisal, Khulna and Dhaka divisions today (Sunday)," said the Met warning.
The depression was centred about 870 km southwest of Chittagong port, 815 km southwest of Cox's Bazar port and 735 km south-southwest of Mongla port at noon.
"It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports," said the special weather bulletin.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kms of the depression centre is about 40 KPH, rising to 50 KPH in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain moderate.
