Admission tests in Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have witnessed a low turnout of applicants this year and its vice chancellor has blamed it on snags over admission system and repeated postponement of the test schedule. "I have myself visited 11 exams centres. At one, I saw the same number of invigilators and those taking the tests," said Vice Chancellor Md Aminul Haque Bhuyan He said that class for the new session could start by April. The entry test for ‘A’ unit was held at 9:30pm on Friday and that for the ‘B’ at 3pm. These tests were held in 22 centres across Sylhet city. Invigilators say 20143 students had applied for the 600 seats at the ‘A’ unit, but the number of them taking the test was low at various centres, compared to the previous years. In some centres that he visited, it was as low as 20 percent , but in some it was around 75 percent. “The exam was held nicely but things could have been better,” he said. “Academic progress would have been hampered if the entry tests was not held now.” He thanked all concerned for help in holding the exam after so much uncertainty. Bhuyan also thanked Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir for calling off their strike on Friday, according to bdnews24.com.
