SIRAJGANJ, Jan 28: Baghabari river port has become inoperative due to low water level in the Jamuna, sources said.
As a result, cargo ships and barges carrying commodities such as fuel and fertiliser cannot reach the river port in due time.
If these goods laden water vehicles are unable to reach the port in time then the whole northern region will face acute crisis of fuel and fertiliser.
Although the dredging operation has been continuing at Mohanganj and Sibalaya points of the Jamuna for maintaining water level deepness, the ongoing operation hardly improve the situation.
A number of loaded barges and cargo ships came to a halt at Mohanganj point of the river last week.
If the problem continues, it will badly affect the fuel supply to the country's northern region, sources added.
