Lower court functions irk CJ

Tuesday, 8 July 2014

Chief Justice (CJ) M Muzammel Hossain expressed his resentment seeing the judicial functions at Dhaka lower courts on Tuesday. The Chief Justice voiced the displeasure during his surprise visit to the lower courts. During the visit, Muzammel Hossain observed a few judicial proceedings sitting beside the presiding judges in the courtrooms. During the proceedings, the Chief Justice sought explanation from the judges why the next date of hearing set after a long gap and why such a poor number of cases came up in the day’s cause list for hearing and why the production of the witnesses look scanty? The judges concerned failed to satisfy the Chief Justice over the issues he raised, court sources said. While addressing the judges, the Chief Justice asked them to dispose of the pending cases speedily to reduce the heavy judicial backlog, according to a news agency.
