Lower prices for fertiliser, seeds demanded

Tuesday, 15 July 2008

Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal Monday demanded that the government take measures to curb prices of fertiliser, seeds and other materials to help the agriculture sector grow, reports UNB.

At a press conference at the NAM apartment of BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Krishak Dal acting president Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticised the government, saying the government has failed to ensure low prices for fertiliser and other materials.

He also demanded that the government reduce the prices of daily commodities to keep them within the reach of the common people.

Fakhrul Islam repeated their demand for the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her two sons, detained on charges of corruption. As her sons, Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko, had been suffering from various ailments, the BNP wanted their treatment abroad.

Repeating the demand, the Krishak Dal acting chief urged the government to send them abroad for better medical treatment without any further delay.

He also demanded immediate withdrawal of the state of emergency.

The front organisation of the BNP set July 21 to meet their demands. Fakhrul Islam said that they would hold a token hunger strike on July 22 in the city if their demands were not met by the deadline.

Krishak Dal general secretary Shamsuzzaman Dudu and joint secretary Takdir Mohammad Jasim were also present at the press conference.
