RANGPUR, Nov 22 (BSS): The middle and lower income group people have been suffering in recent months following repeated price hike of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the northern region of the country.
Market sources said the prices of LPG cylinder of various brands marked a sharp rise by Tk 400-450 per cylinder causing untold sufferings to the consumers.
The retailers and wholesalers of LPG cylinders claimed that LPG prices have increased abnormally in the international markets and its local production came to the lowest quantum that is quite insufficient in meeting local demands.
The consumers, on the other hand say that the price hike of LPG cylinders was created allegedly by a section of 'greedy and unfair people' involved with the whole process of LPG trading.
As a result, prices of the LPG cylinders marked abnormal rise causing immense sufferings to the middle class, lower and fixed income group consumers, they said. They also asked the government to take appropriate measures to check the price rise.
Each unit of the cylinders of the Clean Heat, Basundhara, Jamuna and Total Gaz brand is being sold at Tk 1,080 to Tk 1,200 depending on the brands with some little variations at places, which is beyond the reach of the common people, consumers said.
