Lt Gen Mubin made next army chief

Friday, 5 June 2009

The government has appointed Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) Lieutenant General Muhammed Abdul Mubin as the new army chief, report UNB and bdnews24.com.
Confirming this, a senior official of Prime Minister's Office said Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina has signed the appointment letter Thursday.
Lt Gen Mubin will replace General Moeen U Ahmed, who will retire on June 15. General Moeen was appointed on June 15, 2005 for three years, and was given one year's extension on April 6 last year.
Mubin made a nationwide televised statement shortly after midnight on Feb 28 to clarify that the general amnesty offered by the government during the Feb 25-26 BDR mutiny did not mean that rebel border guards involved in killings, rebellion and arson would be forgiven.
