Lynching: inhuman, barbaric and medieval
Monday, 28 April 2014
Recently, three people were lynched to death by an angry mob in Gazipur. It was alleged that they were CNG-run auto-rickshaw thieves. Such killing is very common in our country and we don't think twice before moving on to the next news when we read it in newspapers. We have become indifferent to such horrible incident. Extra-judicial killing should not be tolerated in any form. No one has the right to kill people, innocent or criminal, without fair trial and due procedure. It is worse than murder.
Sometimes, I feel like we are living in the medieval age. So many innocent people died at the hand of angry mobs. Lynching is a clear proof of deteriorating faith of the common people in the judiciary system as people think they will not get justice and the guilty will go scot-free if the criminals are handed over to the law enforcers. We cannot rule out their apprehension. We must establish the rule of law which will be equal for everyone irrespective of the rich or poor or any party affiliation. The law should be tough on the group of people who lynch. I would like to request the conscious people of our country to be united against all kinds of extra-judicial killing and make our country safe from lawlessness and anarchy.
