MA Kashem takes over as NSU trust chair

Eminent industrialist MA Kashem, who was earlier elected chairman of both North South University (NSU) trustee board and North South Foundation, has taken over his new responsibility, says a statement of the private university.
The eminent industrialist, renowned patron of education, distinguished philanthropist, active social worker and one of the promoters and founder members of the NSU took over the same day he was elected uncontested chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NSU Trust and the North South Foundation.
The election was held in its 4th and 23rd annual general meetings respectively on June 19. The North South Foundation (former NSU Foundation) established the NSU.
Previously, he served the foundation twice as its chairman. Besides, he also served as chairman of the Endowment Committee of NSU Foundation several times since its inception.
He served as the syndicate member of Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh Open University for two consecutive terms of three years each. He is also the former chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh.
Mr. Kashem, former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), is also the Founder Chairman and Director of Southeast Bank Ltd. He was awarded "President's Export Trophy" twice for making notable contribution to the export sector and "CR Das Gold Medal" for remarkable contribution made to the industrial sector of the country. He was also honoured as the Long Term and High Tax Payer-2011 by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
He travelled to different countries of the world several times and led a number of trade delegations to the USA, the UK, Canada, the European Union and Far Eastern countries.
Mr. Kashem is also associated with various social and philanthropic activities. He is a golfer and senior Rotarian. He is the founder chairman of M Kashem Trust, which is aimed at aiding education by providing scholarships and stipends to the underprivileged students in his locality. He has also established a 50-bed modern and non-profit hospital named "Tareque Memorial Hospital" in his home district.
