Madrasa education

Saturday, 25 July 2009

THE draft new national education policy indicates that madrasa students have to acquire skills, vocations, science and technology, in addition to the Islamic studies. It means subjects common to the main education stream will be taught in the madrasas. The 'Ibtedayee' or primary madrasas will have to teach Bangla, ethics, mathematics, Bangladesh Studies, climate science, IT and science. In the 'Aleem' stage, the madrasa students will have to study Bangla, English, mathematics, IT and take vocational training.
The draft policy also suggests that the 'Ibtedayee' or primary madrasa will be an eight-year programme and the Aleem course a four-year programme. There will be no Dakhil or secondary stage. The Fadil or degree course will be either a three or four-year course and the Kamil, a one or two year course.
