Magistrates take oath to protect public interest

CHITTAGONG, Dec 7: Executive magistrates at a training session on mobile courts in Rangamati hill district have taken oath to establish rule of law for protecting rights of the people.
District administration of Rangamati organised the training session at the office of Deputy Commissioner of the district on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Md Mostafa Kamal inaugurated the training course.
Former Magistrate Munir Chowdhury, who steered many successful mobile courts in the past, conducted the oath of office of the magistrates. Mobile courts against food adulteration, environment pollution, illegal land grabbing, violation of traffic rules, unaffiliated brick kilns and stealing and misuse of government property were included in the daylong training course.
Emphasising the need for conducting mobile courts ignoring the anger of the influential persons Munir Chowdhury said the magistrates can exhibit the force of law to ensure peace and security of the citizens which will play a key role in the economic development of the country.
He cited examples of some of his daring raids and mobile courts in the Chittagong Port Authority, Chittagong WASA, Mercantile Marine Department, Environment Directorate, City Corporation and BSTI (Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution). He said that the executive magistrates can bring about revolutionary changes through mobile courts.
Additional Deputy Commissioners of Rangamati, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and all executive magistrates in the district participated in the training.
