Magura arum cultivators eye Tk 15m profit this season

MAGURA, Sept 04: Magura arum growers are expecting to make Tk 15 million profit this season.
Sources said harvest of the vegetable is going on in full swing. Newly-harvested arum has already appeared in the local markets.
Growers are satisfied over the good production and fair market prices.
The item is selling at Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg, sources added.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said some 110 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation of arum in the district this season.
Baten Mian of Amuria village under Magura Sadar said, "I brought two bighas of land under arum cultivation. I have sold 30 maunds of the produce at Tk 32,000."
The farmer said he is expecting Tk 23,000 more from 20 maunds of arum.
Wholesaler Nazmul Hoque in Dhaka road area said Magura cultivators achieved a good arum yield this season.
A massive quantity of the item is transported to the capital and other district daily.
DAE official Badrul Ahsan said arum farming is profitable.
The department supplies quality seed to the farmers every season so that the growers can get a good output.
