Magura Boro farmers happy over good yield, fair price

MAGURA, May 19: Farmers in Magura are overjoyed with a bumper production and high price of Boro paddy.
Newly harvested Boro paddy has started to appear in the markets of the district. A bumper production has been achieved in the district this year. Existing price of Boro paddy is encouraging for the farmers which are at Tk 820 to 870 per maund.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura said, a total of 35600 hectares of land was brought under Boro cultivation in the district this year . A bumper production has been achieved in the district which is 140050 metric tonnes.
Kabul Sheikh, Boro farmers in village Dharla under Magura Sadar Upazila said I cultivated Boro paddy in 4 bighas of my land. I have earned Tk 60 thousand by selling rice while my production cost was Tk 30 thousand.
Razzak Ali, another Boro farmer of village Norihati under Magura Sadar Upazila said, "Last year I faced losses by cultivating Boro. But this year we have achieved a bumper production and price is also high in the market. I shall be able to make a good profit."
Mokhlesur Rahman, deputy director, Magura DAE said, "As we have supplied adequate seeds and fertiliser among the Boro farmers and the weather was favourable a bumper production of Boro has been achieved in the district.
