Magura growers happy over Aus prospect

MAGURA, July 31: Magura Aus growers are happy over heavy rainfall in the district in recent time.
Aus cultivation started in the district from the first week of June. From then the district is facing heavy rainfall expediting Aus plant. Aus growers in the district are now expecting a bumper production.
Agriculture Extension Department (DAE) Magura informed a total of 9025 hectares of land has been brought under Aus cultivation in the district with an output target of 21,600 mt rice. The total rainfall in the district is 465 mm from June 1 to July 17.
Mukter Hossen, an Aus farmer in village Jagla under Magura sadar upazila said, "I have cultivated Aus paddy in 4 bighas of land. Recent rainfall has made me optimistic of achieving a bumper production and I am expecting about 40 maunds of paddy.
When contacted Magura DAE deputy director Mokhlesur Rahaman said, "We are expecting a bumper production of Aus in the district due to heavy rainfall. He added, "This year we have given more incentive money and seeds among the Aus farmer in the district compared to previous years. For this cultivation of Aus has increased in the district."
