Magura hide and skin traders apprehend losses worth Tk 5m

MAGURA, Mar 2: Magura hide and skin traders are apprehending a loss of at least Tk 5 million (50 lakhs) due to the continuous blockades.
Magura district Hide and Skin Traders Association sources informed, uncertainty is prevailing over selling of skins.
Tannery owners are showing reluctance to purchase of skin from small traders and wholesalers of the country as export is being hampered.
At present skins worth at least Tk 5 million are under possession of Magura traders. But they are failing to sell the skins for want of buyers. If the skins under possession of Magura traders remains unsold for more than one month, the skins may develop spot. In no way tannery owners will purchase spotted skin.
At the same time traders are facing pressure from bank authorities for recover of loan.
When contacted, Abu Sharif a hide and skin traders of Magura town said, "We are facing a hard time as skins is lying unsold in our godown. Tannery owners are showing no interest in purchasing skins from us. Unless the political situation of the country improves within a month Magura traders will lose a huge amount of money as no one will purchase their spotted skin".
When contacted Daud Hossein, an employee of a skin wholesale centre in Magura town said, "We are not getting our salary for 2 months. We are compelled to take loan from local money lenders on high interest for our survival.
