Magura jute traders not getting outstanding payments from BJMC

MAGURA, Sept 8: Jute traders in Magura are facing hard time as Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation (BJMC) is yet to pay their bill of Tk 20 million since last year.
Magura jute traders sources said, 4 purchasing centres were running in the district by BJMC last year. The traders of Magura sold jute of Tk 30 million to the centres last year. BJMC authority paid bill of Tk 10 million to the traders. But the outstanding Tk 20 million is yet to be paid by them. In this situation jute traders are plunged into extreme financial crisis. Newly harvested jute has started to come to the local market. But most of the traders are unable to purchase jute from the farmers for want of cash money.
Jute trader Dasharat Dey of Magura Notun bazar said, "In this season we are failing to run our jute business due to non-payment of bill by BGMC. Moreover our appeal for loan by bank authorities is going unheeded."
Sonali Bank, Magura branch manager Shafiqul Islam said, "We are yet to sanction any jute loan this season. If we get such order we shall think about it."
An official of Magura BJMC Manosh Kumar Mollik admitted, they are yet to pay the bill of traders. He said BJMC is to get an allocation from government within a short time and then they will be able to provide the traders with their outstanding bill.
