Railway authorities have formed 2 committees to investigate how a train rammed into the Chittagong Railway Station platform. Three people, including the shunting engine operator, had been suspended over the incident, said East Zone Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Murad Hossain. Engine operator of ‘Mahanagar Probhati’ inter-city train AKM Jahurul Haque, Assistant Loco master Imran Hossain and Pointsman Md Jahangir have also been suspended. ‘Mahanagar Prabhati’ failed to stop at the designated place to pick passengers and the engine with 2 coaches jumped over onto the platform in the early hours of Wednesday. The passenger train crossed the end of line as its shunting engine rammed into the platform. However, none was injured. The incident smashed the Platform No 4, including the passenger entrance, while the engine’s forehead was heavily damaged. Jahurul Haque drove the train from the marshalling yards to the Chittagong station. Imran and Jahangir were on duty as well at the time. The operator while dozing off failed to reduce the train’s speed which was over the limit inside the station and caused the incident, said the authorities, according to bdnews24.com.
