Maheshkhali power project: great initiative

Friday, 15 August 2014

It is indeed great to know that the government has taken the MaheshKhali coal-based mega power project which will generate 1200 MW electricity when it goes into operation. It will cost Tk 360 billion and it will be the most expensive power project of the country. The Japanese government will provide 84 per cent fund and another eleven per cent will be provided by Bangladesh while the rest five percent will be provided by the company which implement this mega project.
We needed such long-term planning for power generation and I believe that the government has taken the right decision. We hope the project will be completed in due time. Our country is energy-starved and we need to produce more energy to take our economy to a higher level of development. Common people want to see improvement in infrastructure and energy sector. The government will gain much popularity if it works their welfare. It must not forget that action speaks louder than words. The present government has improved the energy sector and it deserves kudos for that.
