Mahi, Liton elected DUJA president, GS

The election of the Executive Committee of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) for 2026 was held on Tuesday.
Md. Manjur Hossain Mahi, Dhaka University correspondent for Kaler Kantho, and Liton Islam, university correspondent for Star News, have been elected President and General Secretary (GS) of DUJA respectively.
Voting began at 11:50 am at the DUJA office located at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the DU campus and concluded at 2:50 pm.
Following the vote count, the results were officially announced at 3:00 pm by Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, former DUJA President and current District Commissioner of Gazipur.
Assistant Election Commissioners included former DUJA General Secretary and Prothom Alo Special Correspondent Riadul Karim; former General Secretary and The Daily Ittefaq Senior Reporter Saidur Rahman; as well as current DUJA President Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi and General Secretary Mahadi Hasan.
Elections were held for a total of nine posts, including President and General Secretary. Out of 41 registered voters, all cast their votes-31 in person and 10 through postal ballots.
In the presidential race, Md. Manjur Hossain Mahi secured 30 votes. Liton Islam was elected General Secretary with 24 votes.
Others elected to the committee are: Vice-President Mahathir Mohammad (The Daily Star), Joint General Secretary Md. Rahad Uddin (Daily Janakantha), Office Secretary HM Khalid Hasan (Desh Rupantor), Treasurer Naimur Rahman Imon (The Daily Observer), and Executive Members Md. Borhan Uddin (Channel 24), Md. Shamsuddoja Nawab (Dhaka Tribune), and Mohammad Sahedul Islam (Times of Bangladesh).
After announcing the results, Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan congratulated the newly elected committee.
"DUJA has always believed in democratic practices. We are pleased to see the election held in such a vibrant atmosphere after a long time. We hope the new leadership will work together for the welfare of students," he said.
