Monday, 3 November 2025

On the second day of the second round of the National Cricket League, Mymensingh's Abdul Majid and Dhaka's Mahidul Islam struck brilliant centuries, while Mominul Haque narrowly missed joining them, falling for 92, reports BSS.
In Sylhet, Captain Mahidul Islam Ankon hit a century as Dhaka recovered from early collapse to put them in favourable position against Sylhet Division in NCL at Sylhet Academy Ground on Sunday.
Ankon made 122 off 272 with 13 boundaries as Dhaka piled up 310 before being all out on Day 2.
Sylhet reached 33 for no loss at stumps with Shykat Ali and Zakir Hasan batting on 18 and 15 runs respectively.
Dhaka were reduced to 120-5 on rain-curtailed Day 1 but they came back strongly on Day 2 with Ankon leading from the front.
He was ably supported by Sumon Khan who made 74 and added 125 runs with him for the eighth wicket to take the side past 300-run mark.
Pacer Syed Khaled Ahmed broke the partnership after which Dhaka lost the last three wickets in 10 runs.
Khaled and his fellow pacer Ebadot Hossain claimed three wickets apiece.
In Cox's Bazar, Middle-order batter Abdul Majid became the third batter to hit century for Mymensingh as his side kept them aloft over Rangpur Division at Cox's Bazar Academy Ground Sunday.
Majid was not out on 119, joining openers Mahfijul Islam Robin and Naim Sheikh who hit centuries on Day 1 as Mymensingh declared their first innings on 555-6 on Day 2.
Rangpur were reduced to 18-2 at stumps, still trailing by 537 runs. They still need 357 runs to avoid a follow-on.
Resuming the day at 281-2, Mymensingh lost Aich Mollah and Ariful Islam in quick succession but Majid helped the side recover from the early setback.
He added 130-run with Shuvagata Hom who made 65, for the fifth wicket before stitching another 44 runs with Tahjibul Islam for the unbeaten sixth wicket.
Tahjibul was not out on 60 after playing just 34 ball, hitting two fours and five sixes.
Another match in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh's dependable Test batter Mominul Haque missed out a century in his side's Chattogram's match against Barishal at Cox's Bazar International Stadium on Sunday.
He was just shy of eight runs from a century that could have given him a psychological boost ahead of the Bangladesh's Test fixture against Ireland. Mominul will join the national team's practice session after this second round match of NCL. However his 92 helped Chattogram post 358 before being all out in their first innings.
