Mahmudullah ton guides Central Zone in BCL

World Cup hero Mahmudullah's century stimulated Walton Central Zone to stay at stumps on 278/8 in the first innings on day one against BCB North Zone in their final round encounter of the four-day match Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur Sunday, reports UNB.
In the title contender battle at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, table topper Prime Bank South ZoneĀ scored 272/2 in the first innings also on day one against second slot holder Islami Bank East Zone.
Opening the first innings, Central Zone, who won the toss, piled the score of 278/8 in 90 overs, spurred by a 149 runs off 48.1 overs in the fifth wicket stand between the day's centurion Mahmudullah and Marshal Ayub.
Mahmudullah's century of 113 runs came off 210 balls that involved 11 fours and two sixes while number six Marshal Ayub hit 87 runs off 200 balls with 8 fours.
The penultimate pair between Shohid (not out 21) and Jabid Hossain (not out 5) was batting on when the bails were drawn for the first day. Mehrab Hossain Jr (19) and Rakibul Hasan (12) were the other double digit scorers for the side.
Taijul Islam's spin wizard captured four wickets for 106 runs while Muktar Ali, Mahmudul Hasan and Delwar Hossain took one wicket each conceding 30, 37 and 38 runs respectively.
On the other hand, sent in to bat first, South Zone opened the first innings and scored 272 runs for 2 wickets in 70 overs at stumps on the rain- interrupted first day, riding on an unbeaten third wicket stand of 161 runs in 43 overs between Md Mithun and Shahriar Nafees.
Mithun's not out 88 runs came off 149 balls with 13 fours while Shahriar Nafees scored not out 79 runs off 124 balls with 11 fours.
Earlier, the opening pair between Imrul Kayes and Anamul Haque contributed 80 runs in 20 overs.
Imrul Kayes scored 56 runs off 71 balls with 10 fours while Anamul Haque scored 39 runs off 80 balls with five fours.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Ahmed Sadiqur took one wicket for 45 and 53 runs respectively.
