Maize harvest starts in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Apr 17 : The farmers of four upazilas of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, Alamdanga, Damurhuda and Jibannagar are expecting a bumper maize production this season.
Harvesting of the crop has started which will continue till the last week of April.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said, a total of 45,300 hectares of land in four upazila of Chuadanga district have been brought under the maize cultivation and the production target has been fixed 4,07,700 metric tonnes. Of them 14,450 hectares of land were fixed in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 10,000 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 14,000 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 6850 hectares in Jibannagar Upazila.
Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of maize this season as they are having at least 30-40 maunds of maize from a bigha of land.
  Anwar Ali Biswas, a farmer of Kulchara village under Chuadanga Sadar Upazila said the production of maize this year is better than the previous year. The farmers will get good yield in this season.
