Major flaws in garments factories
Saturday, 15 March 2014
The garments sector has been playing a significant role in our economic development over the years. Despite having a huge number of manpower, this sector is facing a lot of problems due to the flaws in the connection of electric wires and structure. The recent inspection team from abroad has found some major problems of garments sector of Bangladesh.
Flaws in the connection of the electric wires and structure are beyond description. The sector is in jeopardy for these two major problems. It is true that cables are laid down without safety in most of the garments of Bangladesh. Even cables entering and leaving the terminal boxes are connected without cable gland and base plate. Overloading of goods in different floor of the garments is another cause of building collapse. In spite of great risk, workers are working day after day in order to earn their livelihood. Neither the government nor the owners are thinking of the matter.
Most of the leading garments infrastructures are not professional in their approach. Bangladesh witnessed the collapse of Rana Plaza that killed and maimed a lot of people. We wouldn't like to see another garments collapse. If necessary steps are not taken, garments workers will have to suffer again and again.
