RANGPUR, June 4 (BSS): Heavy rainfall was recorded at most places in greater Rangpur during the last 24 hours until 6:00 am this morning that partly affected normal life till 10:00 am today and caused water-logging in both rural and urban areas.
All major rivers and their tributaries marked rises following the incessant heavy rain that showered throughout the night last night and onrush of waters from the upper catchments during the period in greater Rangpur area.
The Teesta marked a rise by 13 cm during the period and was flowing at 51.45m, which was 95cm below its danger mark at Dalia point in Nilphamari district at 6 am this morning, the WDB officials said.

"There is no flood-like situation anywhere in the country's northern region in the river basins," officials in the WDB told the news agency.
However, some sporadic incidents of devouring arable and barren lands by the Brahmaputra were reported from the erosion-prone char areas in Kurigram and Gaibandha districts, local sources said.
"The unstable sandy-soil structures in the riversides are highly vulnerable to draining of rain waters and strong river currents and there is no major erosion noticed so far in the area," the WDB officials told BSS.
Officials in the DAE told that the rainfall will cause no harm as there is no major growing crop in the fields now and will definitely help the farmers in preparing their seedbeds for T- Aman farming everywhere.
The WDB recorded 90.5mm rainfalls at Kurigram, 74mm at Dalia, 82mm at Kawnia, 52mm at Rangpur, 60.4mm at Chilmari, 30 mm at Dewanganj and 34mm at Panchagarh during the last 24 hours ending at 6 am this morning.
