Major rivers overflow to worsen flood

Tuesday, 24 July 2007

Torrential rain in the past few days and onrush of hilly waters made most of the major rivers swell, flooding large swathes of the country, reports bdnews24.com.
Flood Forecasts and Warning Centre (FFWC) Monday said at least five rivers at seven points were flowing above the danger level, giving rise to flooding in parts of the country.
Though Sunday there had been moderate to heavy rainfalls all over the country, Monday morning in Dhaka seemed to be basking under a welcome sun.
The skies remained clear until midday, though the Met Office said most areas in the country might have rains. Temperature during the day might remain unchanged.
The FFWC said the river Padma was flowing 1.0 cm above the danger mark at Goalundo point, the Surma was flowing 7.0 cm above the danger level at Kanaighat and 9.0 cm at Sunamganj.
