Major Russian food stores agree to freeze prices

MOSCOW, Oct 25 (AFP): Several major Russian food store chains agreed to freeze prices on basic foodstuffs like bread, milk and eggs, as the Russian government struggles to rein in inflation, the companies said in a joint statement yesterday.
The signatories, which include Auchan, Billa, Metro Cash and Carry, and the X5 Retail Group which owns Pyaterochka and Perekrestok store chains, agreed to "establish prices at the level registered on October 15.
