The majority respondents of a public survey, named 'Kemon Police Chai' (what kind of police we want), have opined in favour of formation of a separate regulatory organisation or a commission for Bangladesh Police to make the law-enforcing agency accountable and free from influences, reports BSS.
"Around 58.9 per cent of the respondents gave their opinion in favour of forming a regulatory body or commission to make the police accountable and free from various influences," noted the survey, conducted by the Police Reform Commission (PRC).
Some 24,422 people took part in the survey, in which 41.1 per cent (10,044) respondents suggested formation of an independent 'police ombudsman' under the constitutional framework.
The PRC said the two ideas - establishment of a police commission or a police ombudsman - can be considered for forming a police commission.
