Making bikers aware of dangers

Monday, 9 May 2022

Motorcycle is a popular mode of transportation in Bangladesh. Since the last decade, the registered number of motorcycles across the country has been increasing overwhelmingly. However, it is one of the most vulnerable kinds of vehicle and now responsible for most road crash fatalities. According to the Road Safety Foundation, at least 543 people were killed and 612 injured in 427 road accidents across the country in April, with road crashes involving motorbikes being the leading cause of the deaths. A total of 206 people were reportedly killed in 189 accidents involving bikes, which accounted for 37.93 per cent of the total deaths. Experts believe that these accidents are a result of violation of traffic rules, over-speeding on highways, and an increase in underage drivers.
Riding a motorcycle is an adventurous experience. However, the harsh reality is that motorcycle riding can be very dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. Whether you are a seasoned rider or a newbie motorcyclist, your safety is of great concern. They are 30 times more likely to sustain fatal injuries or even die in an accident than those driving cars. So, every motorcyclist must be made aware of the dangers they face. It can be done by launching an awareness campaign throughout the country.
