Making Dhaka beautiful

Thursday, 20 March 2008

THE capital city of Dhaka needs a beautification programme. Such a programme taken by the last government was limited to plantation of trees and decorating the median of the main roads. The capital city is the place which can be said a mirror of a country. It shows the world how a country looks like and how far it is developed. A tourist leaves a country taking the impression of its capital.
Whatever beauty Dhaka has had, it has eclipsed by its increasing population pressure and traffic jams. We feel this when Dhaka is left alone during Eid vacations.
To revive the city's beauty, it is necessary to take a fresh plan. It is necessary to rebuild the city and decentralise activities to ease its population pressure. Decentralisation would encourage the people to leave the capital city as well as discourage others from pushing to Dhaka. All should be encouraged to beautify the city as it is not a job only for the government alone. From business community to the common people, everyone has a responsibility in making our capital city beautiful and attractive.
